Mite Blast in Wahpeton

Declan's Mite team traveled to Wahpeton last weekend for the Mite Blast tournament. There were 14 mite teams at this tournament. Declan's team played their hearts out and played very well. They lost their first 2 games, but were able to win their third and final game. They were all so excited and it was good to end the tournament on a good note.

Here is Declan playing center in his second game. This is his most favorite position.
There were flags on the boards for all the teams in the tournament. This was for Declan's team Fergus Falls Gold.

This was his team lined up watching the game before them to get over.

Declan played his 2nd favoite position in the last game. Goalie. He was pretty sick on this day and was having trouble breathing in his first game that day. So I talked to the coach since they were going to see who else wanted to be goalie about having Declan be goalie. He was very excited and did an awesome job.

The team didn't place, but played really well.

Each participant in the tournament gets a puck that has the mite blast symbol on it. The kids were pretty excited about their pucks.
Declan ended up in the hospital the day after this game, Sunday because he took a turn for the worse that night. He ended up with a bad case of croup and an infection of his larynx. Strange!! He came home late Monday afternoon after the doctor did many x-rays, blood work, a CT of his neck, IV steroids, IV antibiotics, and lots of pain meds for his throat. The poor kid was in so much pain he could not even talk. It was so hard seeing my talkative little boy not talk for 24 hours. I stayed with him the whole time in the hospital and Jeff was there when he wasn't home with Isaac or at work. It was the longest 2 days of our lives and the scariest. He is much better today, Wednesday, and will be back in school on Thursday.
He was such a trooper and we are so proud of him!
