Roof is on house

June 6th- The roof is done on our house, well sort of. They have the taping done and they are ready to start shingles on Monday. We have had lots of people ask us why the red color on the roof and the green on the walls. We now know the answer. The green coating on the plywood removes the need for tyvac on the walls before the siding. The red coating on the roof removes the need to tar paper before you put the shingles on. How do they prevent leaks in the seams both of our fathers asked. The black tape you see on the roof right now is a special tape for the seams to stop the leaks. I feel so smart now! I guess builders have been using this method down south for a couple years and now they are starting to use it up here in North Country.
A side view of the house with the garage.
It was a misty rain on the 6th, but you can see the back side of the house.

I had to throw this picture in here because we notice our contractor put up his sign last week.

Front of House

June 4th- Here is the front of the house with the front porch rafters being placed. It is really start to take shape. The 2 big windows in the upper level are the kids' rooms with the bathroom window in the middle. Then on the main level is the spare bedroom to the left, bathroom, front door, and living room windows.
The garage is hidden from the clay piles that are still there. I heard from a neighbor who is waiting for a driveway that the road weight restrictions have just recently been lifted.
This is from down the road a little bit where we were parked today to meet with the contractor. We are going to take more pictures today, but are waiting for the rest of the roof to be finished. There are alot of guys working in the house today and it is really loud. We had to go there with our contractor and answer many questions today and it was fun. We fixed the master bathroom to fit my cool tub that I might let Jeff use and then answered other questions the guys had for us. This has been such a fun experience and we are really enjoying it.

Putting on the Roof

June 3rd- They are getting the rafters on and the plywood over them. The rafters are so tall that they had to put the peak of them on after the main rafters. There is a limit how big things can be on an oversize load and our rafters were too wide. So, for a while the roof looked like a barn roof and then we saw the guys putting on the last triangles on them.
You can see how tall and steep the roof is in this picture. There is no way you could pay me enough money to be in that bucket to put on the turret roof. We watched them ride up to the top and it was high up there.

This is the inside of the turret before the flooring between the levels. The flooring for the upper level will come later.
This is the view from the road into the subdivision. It is also right next to hole #11. I have been taking many pictures as the house changes from this exact spot so we can see the difference. The garage is also framed and going up. I didn't put specific pictures of that because garages are boring.

Upper Level before Roof

May 29th- The kids are standing in the corner of one of their bedrooms. This was the first time they saw the rooms and they cannot decide who wants what.
Isaac is standing in the other kid bedroom. They are exactly the same size, just positioned differently in the house. The difference is wall space because this bedroom will have an extra window and the other one will have more wall space. Decisions, Decisions.......
This is the bathroom for the boys. The window are is where the bathtub, toilet, and one sink will be. Then the middle area you see will be a linen closet and a second sink. There will be a pocket door between the two sink areas, so one can shower and one can still use a sink. This was our compromise to me refusing to let them have their own bathroom and cleaning 2 messy toilets for boys that miss. The 3rd area you see here is the hallway to get to one of the bedrooms to the right. The other bedroom is to the left before the start of the hallway.
Jeff is standing in our master bath. He is standing in our walk-in shower. We chose to have a walk-in style with no door. Behind him but it is hard to see will be the toilet, but we changed that area a bit today. Then the corner with the window will be the whirlpool tub. I chose to have the 60" tub instead of the 54" the plans called for, so we had to rearrange. We just decided that today (6/4)with our contractor.
This is the master bedroom.

Turret

Hello! I have had many questions on what the turret will be used for, so I thought I would just do a new post and fill you in. The basement of the turret will be our wine cellar. Then the main floor of it will be our library and our office is connected to that. We are going to have book shelves under the windows with a bench you can sit on to look out the windows. Then the upper level of the turret will be a sitting room with a steel floor. It will be made by Jeff at Innova with geomatric shapes cut out of it, but they will be small enough you can still walk around up there. We aren't sure if we will put furniture in there or not, we are still thinking about that one. The shapes will also allow light down to the library from the ceiling fan that will be in the peak of the turret ceiling. I will take many pictures of it as it gets done.

Beginning of 2nd Floor

They got part of the walls up on the 2nd floor Tuesday. It is killing Jeff that they haven't built the stairs so we can walk up there, but we will.
This is the side of the house and to the right is the turret.
Here is the other side of the house with Jeff down the hill taking the picture and the kids and I are on the clay pile. Jeff was able to climb the ladder the framing guys are using to get to the 2nd floor today when he was out there. He said the view is amazing. The kids and I went out to the farm today, so we will check it out hopefully tomorrow.

Family Party

Okay, so there are no pictures of the actual family at the party, but Greta's family is practically family to us, too. My brother's family wasn't able to make it because his youngest was sick, so my kids played with their friends at the family party. They had a blast and did not want to stop jumping. Here is Declan watching Kaylee go down the slide and me videotaping her. Jeff was videotaping the kids on the slide at the kid party and was able to do it easier because he is taller.
Jacob coming down slide and Isaac observing.
Isaac in between Becca and Kaylee. Before preschool, you would never see him doing this. He was afraid of girls, except these two because he has grown up with them. But he is getting more and more open with being around girls and talking to them. He sure is growing up.
